Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .

  2. Position the seal in order to provide access to the lower pinch bolt on the intermediate steering shaft.
  3. Remove the lower pinch bolt from the power steering gear stub shaft.
    4. NOTE: The front wheels of the vehicle must be maintained in the straight ahead position and the steering column must be in the LOCK position before disconnecting the steering column or intermediate shaft. Failure to follow these procedures will cause improper alignment of some components during installation and result in damage to the SIR coil assembly.

  4. Insert J 42640  into the steering column access hole in order to lock the steering column. This will maintain the orientation.
  5. Disconnect the intermediate steering shaft from the power steering gear stub shaft. Note the shaft to gear alignment for installation.
  6. Lower the vehicle.

  7. Remove the upper pinch bolt from the intermediate steering shaft.
  8. Disconnect the intermediate steering shaft from the steering column. Note the shaft to column alignment for installation.
  9. Remove the intermediate steering shaft from the vehicle.
