Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Lubricate the seal lip with transaxle fluid.
    2. IMPORTANT: Carefully guide the axle shaft past the lip seal. Do NOT allow the shaft splines to contact any portion of the seal lip surface.
  2. Install J 37292-B  in the seal (409). See Special Tools and Equipment .

  3. Use J 34115  to install the new seal. See Special Tools and Equipment .
  4. Remove the J 37292-B  . See Special Tools and Equipment .
  5. Install the drive axle to the transaxle. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement in Wheel Drive Shafts.
  6. Install the left lower ball joint to the left steering knuckle. Refer to Steering Knuckle Replacement in Front Suspension.
  7. Install the left tie rod end to the left steering knuckle. Refer to Steering Knuckle Replacement in Front Suspension.
  8. Install the left stabilizer shaft link to the left lower stabilizer shaft. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement in Front Suspension.
  9. Install the left front tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  10. Lower the vehicle.
    11. NOTE: Refer to Do Not Overfill the Transmission Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  11. Adjust the fluid level.
  12. Inspect for proper completion of the repairs.
  13. Inspect for proper fluid level.
  14. Inspect for fluid leaks.
