Trunk Release Inoperative

1 Did you review the Luggage Compartment Description and Operation? Go to Step 2  Go to Luggage Compartment Description and Operation

  1. Place the transmission in the PARK position.
  2. Operate the rear compartment lid release.
Did the rear compartment lid release?		 Go to Step 4  Go to Step 3 
3 Operate the rear compartment release from the keyless entry transmitter.
Did the rear compartment lid release?		 Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems Go to Diagnostic System Check - Remote Keyless Entry in Keyless Entry

  1. While inside vehicle, close and lock all doors.
  2. Unlock the vehicle doors using the drivers door lock.
  3. Re-lock the doors.
  4. Unlock the vehicle doors using the passenger door lock.
Do the doors unlock from each switch?		 Go to Step 5  Go to Diagnostic System Check - Door Systems in Doors

  1. Disconnect the rear compartment lid latch.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the trunk release control circuit and a good ground.
  3. Operate the rear compartment lid release switch.
Does the test lamp illuminate?		 Go to Step 6  Go to Step 7

  1. Connect a test lamp between the trunk release control circuit and the ground circuit of the rear compartment lid latch.
  2. Operate the rear compartment lid release switch.
Did the test lamp illuminate?		 Go to Step 9  Go to Step 8 
7 Test the trunk release control circuit for an open or short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?		 Go to Step 13  Go to Step 10 
8 Repair the open or high resistance in the ground circuit of the rear compartment lid latch. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?		 Go to Step 13  -
9 Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the rear compartment lid latch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?		 Go to Step 13  Go to Step 11 
10 Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the BCM. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?		 Go to Step 13  Go to Step 12 
11 Replace the rear compartment lid latch. Refer to Latch Replacement - Rear Compartment Lid  in Body Rear End.
Did you find and correct the condition?		 Go to Step 13  -
12 Replace the BCM. Refer to Body Control Module Replacement in Body Control System.
Did you find and correct the condition?		 Go to Step 13  -
13 Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
Did you correct the condition?		 System OK Go to Step 2
