Door Ajar Indicator Malfunction

Door Ajar Indicator Malfunction

DEFINITION: One of the door ajar messages does not display Ajar when the corresponding door is ajar, or, one of the door ajar messages displays Ajar when the corresponding door is closed
1 Did you perform the Door Systems Diagnostic System Check? Go to Step 2  Go to Diagnostic System Check - Door Systems 
2 Verify that the Door Ajar Indicator Malfunction complaint is present.
Does the Door Ajar Indicator system operate as described in the system description and operation?		 Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems Go to Step 3

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Close all doors.
  4. With the scan tool, observe the parameter of each door ajar switch in the Data Display, Inputs list of the body control module (BCM):
    • LF Door Ajar Switch
    • RF Door Ajar Switch
    • Left Rear Door Ajar Sw.
    • Right Rear Door Ajar Sw.
Does the scan tool indicate that the Door Ajar Switch parameter is in the OFF state for all doors?		 Go to Step 4  Go to Step 5

  1. Open all of the vehicle doors.
  2. With the scan tool, observe the parameter of each door ajar switch in the Data Display, Inputs list of the body control module (BCM):
    • LF Door Ajar Switch
    • RF Door Ajar Switch
    • Left Rear Door Ajar Sw.
    • Right Rear Door Ajar Sw.
Does the scan tool indicate that the Door Ajar Switch is in the ON state for all doors?		 Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems Go to Step 6

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the harness connector of the suspect door lock.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. With the scan tool, observe the appropriate Door Ajar Switch parameter.
Does the scan tool display OFF?		 Go to Step 11  Go to Step 9

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the harness connector of the suspect door lock.
  3. Connect a 3 amp fused jumper wire between the door ajar switch signal circuit of the harness connector and a good ground.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  5. With the scan tool, observe the appropriate Door Ajar Switch parameter.
Does the scan tool display ON?		 Go to Step 7  Go to Step 8

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Connect the 3 amp fused jumper wire between the door ajar switch signal circuit and the ground circuit of the harness connector.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. With the scan tool, observe the appropriate Door Ajar Switch parameter.
Does the scan tool display ON?		 Go to Step 11  Go to Step 12 
8 Test the door ajar switch signal circuit of the door lock for the following conditions:
  • An open
  • A short to voltage
  • A high resistance

Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?		 Go to Step 15  Go to Step 10 
9 Test the door ajar switch signal circuit of the door lock for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?		 Go to Step 15  Go to Step 10 
10 Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the suspect body control module (BCM). Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?		 Go to Step 15  Go to Step 13 
11 Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the suspect door lock. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?		 Go to Step 15  Go to Step 14 
12 Repair the high resistance or open in the ground circuit of the door lock. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you complete the repair?		 Go to Step 15  -
13 Replace the body control module (BCM). Refer to Body Control Module Replacement in Body Control System.
Did you complete the replacement?		 Go to Step 15  -
14 Replace the door lock. Refer to Lock Actuator Replacement - Front Door  or Lock Actuator Replacement - Rear Door .
Did you complete the replacement?		 Go to Step 15  -
15 Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
Did you correct the condition?		 System OK Go to Step 2
