Removal Procedure
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the vacuum hoses from the following:
- Fuel pressure regulator
- Evaporative emissions (EVAP) canister purge valve
- Manifold vacuum source
- Brake booster
- Heater and air conditioning source

- Disconnect the electrical connectors from the following:
- Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve
- Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor
- Idle Air Control (IAC) valve
- Throttle Position (T/P) sensor
- Evaporative emission (EVAP) canister purge valve
- Remove the air cleaner intake duct. Refer to AIR CLEANER INTAKE DUCT REPLACEMENT in ENGINE CONTROLS - REMOVAL & INSTALLATION, OVERHAUL
.
- Drain the cooling system. Refer to ACCELERATOR CONTROLS CABLE BRACKET REPLACEMENT in ENGINE COOLING SYSTEM
.
- Remove the accelerator control and cruise control cables with bracket from the throttle body. Refer to ACCELERATOR CONTROLS CABLE REPLACEMENT in ENGINE CONTROLS - REMOVAL & INSTALLATION, OVERHAUL
.
- Remove the left side spark plug wires from the spark plugs. Refer to SPARK PLUG WIRE REPLACEMENT in ENGINE CONTROLS - REMOVAL & INSTALLATION, OVERHAUL
.
- Remove the following wiring harnesses from the retainers:
- Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor wiring harness
- Left side spark plug wire harness
- Engine wiring harness
- Remove the thermostat bypass pipe coolant hoses (3,4) from the throttle body.

- Remove the ignition coil bracket with the coils. Refer to IGNITION COILS
.
- Remove the EVAP canister purge valve. Refer to EVAP CANISTER VENT VALVE
.
- Remove the Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor and the bracket. Refer to MANIFOLD ABSOLUTE PRESSURE SENSOR
.
- Remove the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve. Refer to EGR VALVE
.

- Remove the right upper intake manifold bolts and studs.

- Remove the left upper intake manifold bolts.
- Remove the upper intake manifold.

- Remove the upper intake manifold gasket.

- If replacing the upper intake manifold, remove the throttle body. Refer to THROTTLE BODY
.
- Clean the upper intake gasket mating surfaces.
