Diagnostic Procedures
- Perform powertrain diagnostic system check. See POWERTRAIN DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. After performing powertrain diagnostic system check, go to next step.
- Install a scan tool. Turn ignition on, engine off. Using scan tool, command boost solenoid on and off. If a click is heard when solenoid is commanded on and off, go to next step. If a click is not heard when solenoid is commanded on and off, go to step 4.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM connector C2. Turn ignition on, engine off. Connect a DVOM on 10-amp scale between PCM connector C2 terminal No. 77 (Gray wire) and ground. See Figure. Measure current from boost solenoid for 2 minutes. If current remains 50-800 milliamps, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS . If current does not remain 50-800 milliamps, go to step 8.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect boost control solenoid. See Figure. Turn ignition on, engine off. Using a DVOM, measure voltage between boost solenoid connector terminal "B" (Gray wire) and ground. If voltage is zero volts, go to next step. If voltage is not zero volts, go to step 10.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect boost solenoid connector. Turn ignition on, engine off. Connect a test light between boost solenoid connector terminals. Using scan tool, command boost solenoid on and off. If test light turns on and off with each command, go to step 8. If test light does not turn on and off with each command, go to next step.
- Turn ignition on, engine off. Using test light connected to ground, probe boost solenoid connector terminal "A" (Pink wire). If test light is on, go to next step. If test light is off, go to step 12.
- Turn ignition off. Reconnect boost solenoid. Disconnect PCM connector C2. Turn ignition on, engine off. Using a fused jumper wire (3-amp) connected to ground, probe PCM connector C2 terminal No. 77 (Gray wire). If solenoid operates, go to step 11. If solenoid does not operate, go to step 9.
- Check boost solenoid connector for a poor connections. If problem was found, repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step 15. If problem was not found, go to step 13.
- Repair open or short to ground in Gray wire between boost solenoid and PCM. After repairs, go to step 15.
- Repair short to voltage in Gray wire between boost solenoid and PCM. After repairs, go to step 15.
- Check PCM connectors for poor connections. If problem was found, repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step 15. If problem was not found, go to step 14.
- Repair open or short to ground in Pink wire between boost solenoid and fuse. After repairs, go to step 15.
- Replace boost solenoid. After repairs, go to step 15.
- Replace PCM. Program replacement PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE under PROGRAMMING. After repairs, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Turn ignition off for 30 seconds. Start engine. Operate vehicle within code enable criteria. If DTC runs and passes, go to next step. If DTC does not run and pass, go to step 2.
- Using scan tool, observe stored information. If scan tool displays any DTCs that have not been diagnosed, see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If scan tool does not display any DTCs, system is okay.
