Engine Cooling Diagnostic System Check

  1. Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. Turn ignition on. If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, go to SCAN TOOL DOES NOT POWER UP under SYSTEM TESTS in appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
  2. Turn ignition on. Try to establish scan tool communication with Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) and PCM. If communication with IPC and PCM is established, go to next step. If communication with IPC and/or PCM is not established, go to SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE under SYSTEM TESTS in appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
  3. Select DISPLAY DTC function for PCM. Record all displayed DTCs and status of displayed DTCs. If any DTCs are displayed, go to next step. If no DTCs are displayed, repair cooling system as necessary.
  4. If scan tool does not display any DTCs that begin with "U", go to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If scan tool displays any DTCs that begin with "U", go to SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE under SYSTEM TESTS in appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
