Test T: Low Engine Oil Level Indicator Always On

  1. If Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) system diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If IPC system diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform IPC system diagnostic system check. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. See Figure . Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, observe ENGINE OIL LEVEL SW parameter in PCM ENGINE DATA 2 data list. If scan tool displays OK, go to next step. If scan tool does not display OK, go to step  4 .
  3. If low engine oil level indicator is illuminated, go to step  11 . If low engine oil level indicator is not illuminated, go to DIAGNOSING INTERMITTENTS  .
  4. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect engine oil level switch harness connector. Engine oil level switch is located on bottom of oil pan. Connect a fused jumper wire between ground and engine oil level switch harness connector Brown wire terminal. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, observe ENGINE OIL LEVEL parameter in PCM ENGINE DATA 2 data list. If scan tool displays LOW, go to next step. If scan tool does not display LOW, go to step  6 .
  5. Test Brown wire between engine oil level switch harness connector and Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Natural harness connector C2 terminal No. 58 for open or high resistance. See Figure . PCM is located in front left corner of engine compartment, inside air cleaner. If open or high resistance is not found, go to step  8 . If open or high resistance is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  12 .
  6. Test Black/White wire between engine oil level switch harness connector and ground point G113 for open or high resistance. Ground point G113 is located in lower left front of engine, on transaxle stud, to left of starter. If problem is not found, go to next step. If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  12 .
  7. Check for poor connections at engine oil level switch harness connector. If poor connections are not found, go to step  9 . If poor connections are found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  12 .
  8. Check for poor connections at PCM harness connector. If poor connections are not found, go to step  10 . If poor connections are found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  12 .
  9. Replace engine oil level switch. After repair, go to step  12 .
  10. Replace PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to step  12 .
  11. Replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to next step.
  12. Operate system to verify repair. If system does not operate properly, go to step  2 . If system operates properly, system is okay.
