Test S: Low Engine Coolant Indicator Always On

  1. If engine cooling system diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If engine cooling system diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform engine cooling system diagnostic system check. See ENGINE COOLING SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Observe LOW COOLANT indicator. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If LOW COOLANT indicator illuminates, go to next step. If LOW COOLANT indicator does not illuminate, go to DIAGNOSING INTERMITTENTS  .
    3. NOTE: Coolant level module may also be referred to as coolant level sensor or coolant level switch.
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect coolant level module harness connector. Coolant level module is located on right rear of radiator. Observe LOW COOLANT indicator. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If LOW COOLANT indicator illuminates, go to next step. If LOW COOLANT indicator does not illuminate, go to step  5 .
  4. Test Yellow/Black wire between coolant level module harness connector and Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) harness connector terminal B6 for short to ground. See Figure . If short to ground is not found, go to step  6 . If short to ground is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  7 .
  5. Replace coolant level module. After repair, go to step  7 .
  6. Replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to next step.
  7. Operate system to verify repair. If system does not operate properly, go to step  2 . If system operates properly, system is okay.
