Test M: Driver Information Center Switches Inoperative
- If Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) system diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If IPC system diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform IPC system diagnostic system check. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. See Figure . Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, observe FEIC RESET parameter in IPC data list. If scan tool displays OFF, go to next step. If scan tool does not display OFF, go to step 7 .
- Press Driver Information Center (DIC) RESET button. Using scan tool, observe FEIC RESET parameter in IPC data list. If scan tool displays ON, go to next step. If scan tool does not display ON, go to step 8 .
- Using scan tool, observe FEIC MODE parameter in IPC data list. If scan tool displays OFF, go to next step. If scan tool does not display OFF, go to step 7 .
- Press DIC MODE button. Using scan tool, observe FEIC MODE parameter in IPC data list. If scan tool displays ON, go to next step. If scan tool does not display ON, go to step 9 .
- Using scan tool, observe ENGLISH/METRIC parameter in IPC data list. Press DIC E/M button. If scan tool display switches between ENGLISH and METRIC, go to DIAGNOSING INTERMITTENTS . If scan tool display does not switch between ENGLISH and METRIC, go to step 10 .
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect DIC switch harness connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, observe FEIC MODE and FEIC RESET parameters in IPC data list. If scan tool does not display OFF for both parameters, go to step 12 . If scan tool displays OFF for both parameters, go to step 15 .
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect DIC harness connector. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between ground and DIC switch harness connector Orange wire terminal. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, observe FEIC RESET parameter in IPC data list. If scan tool displays ON, go to step 11 . If scan tool does not display ON, go to step 13 .
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect DIC harness connector. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between ground and DIC switch harness connector Pink wire terminal. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, observe FEIC parameters in IPC data list. If scan tool display does not switch modes when ground is applied, go to step 14 . If scan tool display switches modes when ground is applied, go to step 15 .
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect DIC harness connector. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between ground and DIC switch harness connector Light Blue wire terminal. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, observe ENGLISH/METRIC parameter in IPC data list. If scan tool display switches between ENGLISH and METRIC when ground is applied, go to next step. If scan tool display does not switch between ENGLISH and METRIC when ground is applied, go to step 16 .
- Test Black wire between DIC switch harness connector and ground point G203 for open or high resistance. Ground point G203 is located below instrument panel, to right of steering column. See GROUND DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS. If open or high resistance is not found, go to step 15 . If open or high resistance is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 20 .
- Test Orange wire and Pink wire between DIC harness connector and IPC harness connector for short to ground. If short to ground is not found, go to step 17 . If short to ground is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 20 .
- Test Orange wire between DIC harness connector and IPC harness connector for open, high resistance or short to voltage. If open, high resistance or short to voltage is not found, go to step 17 . If open, high resistance or short to voltage is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 20 .
- Test Pink wire between DIC harness connector and IPC harness connector for open, high resistance or short to voltage. If open, high resistance or short to voltage is not found, go to step 17 . If open, high resistance or short to voltage is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 20 .
- Check for poor connections at DIC harness connector. If poor connections are not found, go to step 18 . If poor connections are found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 20 .
- Test Light Blue wire between DIC harness connector and IPC harness connector for open, high resistance or short to voltage. If open, high resistance or short to voltage is not found, go to next step. If open, high resistance or short to voltage is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 20 .
- Check for poor connections at IPC harness connector. If poor connections are not found, go to step 19 . If poor connections are found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 20 .
- Replace DIC. See DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to step 20 .
- Replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to next step.
- Operate system to verify repair. If system does not operate properly, go to step 2 . If system operates properly, system is okay.
