Test L: Door/Trunk Ajar Indicator Malfunction
- If door/trunk ajar system diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If door/trunk ajar system diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform door/trunk ajar system diagnostic system check. See DOOR/TRUNK AJAR SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Verify that DOOR/TRUNK ajar indicator malfunction exists. If DOOR/TRUNK ajar indicator does not operate correctly, go to next step. If DOOR/TRUNK ajar indicator operates correctly, go to DIAGNOSING INTERMITTENTS .
- If DOOR/TRUNK ajar indicator remains illuminated, go to next step. If DOOR/TRUNK ajar indicator does not remain illuminated, go to step 8 .
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. See Figure . Close all doors and trunk lid. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, observe DOOR JAMB SWITCH and TRUNK AJAR parameters in BCM data list. If scan tool displays ACTIVE for either parameter, go to next step. If scan tool does not display ACTIVE for either parameter, go to step 11 .
- If scan tool displays ACTIVE for DOOR JAMB SWITCH parameter, go to next step. If scan tool displays ACTIVE for TRUNK AJAR parameter, go to step 7 .
- Using scan tool, observe DOOR JAMB SWITCH parameter in BCM data list. One at a time, disconnect each door lock cylinder harness connector C1. If scan tool display does not change to INACTIVE when any door lock cylinder harness connector C1 is disconnected, go to step 12 . If scan tool display changes to INACTIVE when any door lock cylinder harness connector C1 is disconnected, go to step 19 .
- Using scan tool, observe TRUNK AJAR parameter in BCM data list. Disconnect trunk ajar switch assembly harness connector. If scan tool display does not change to INACTIVE when trunk ajar switch assembly harness connector is disconnected, go to step 13 . If scan tool display changes to INACTIVE when trunk ajar switch assembly harness connector is disconnected, go to step 20 .
- If DOOR/TRUNK ajar indicator is inoperative from a door, go to next step. If DOOR/TRUNK ajar indicator is inoperative from trunk lid, go to step 10 .
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect suspect door lock harness connector C1. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between ground and door lock harness connector C1 Dark Blue/White wire terminal. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If DOOR/TRUNK ajar indicator illuminates, go to step 14 . If DOOR/TRUNK ajar indicator does not illuminate, go to step 15 .
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect trunk ajar switch assembly harness connector. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between ground and trunk ajar switch assembly harness connector Black wire terminal. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If DOOR/TRUNK ajar indicator illuminates, go to step 16 . If DOOR/TRUNK ajar indicator does not illuminate, go to step 17 .
- Using scan tool, observe DOOR/TRUNK AJAR LIGHT parameter in IPC data list. If scan tool displays ON, go to step 21 . If scan tool does not display ON, go to step 22 .
- Test Dark Blue/White wire between suspect door lock harness connector C1 and Body Control Module (BCM) Blue harness connector C1 terminal C16 for short to ground. See Figure . BCM is located behind left side of instrument panel, to left of steering column. See Figure . If short to ground is not found, go to step 21 . If short to ground is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 27 .
- Test Black wire between trunk ajar switch assembly harness connector and Body control Module (BCM) Purple harness connector C2 terminal A9 for short to ground. See Figure . BCM is located behind left side of instrument panel, to left of steering column. See Figure . If short to ground is not found, go to step 21 . If short to ground is found, repair as necessary. after repair, go to step 27 .
- Test Black wire between suspect door lock cylinder harness connector C1 and ground point G301 for an open. Ground point G301 is located is located in left "A" pillar. If an open is not found, go to step 19 . If an open is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 27 .
- Test Dark Blue/White wire between suspect door lock harness connector C1 and Body Control Module (BCM) Blue harness connector C1 terminal C16 for an open. See Figure . BCM is located behind left side of instrument panel, to left of steering column. See Figure . If an open is not found, go to step 18 . If an open is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 27 .
- Test Black/Orange wire between trunk ajar switch assembly harness connector and ground point G313 for an open. Ground point G313 is located in right side of rear shelf. If an open is not found, go to step 20 . If an open is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 27 .
- Test Orange/Black wire between trunk light harness connector and Body Control Module (BCM) Purple harness connector C2 terminal A9 for an open. See Figure . BCM is located behind left side of instrument panel, to left of steering column. See Figure . If an open is not found, go to next step. If an open is found, repair as necessary, after repair, go to step 27 .
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. See Figure . Open all doors and trunk lid. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, observe DOOR/TRUNK AJAR LIGHT parameter in IPC data list. If scan tool does not display ON, go to step 21 . If scan tool displays ON, go to step 22 .
- Check for poor connections at suspect door lock cylinder harness connector. If poor connections are not found, go to step 23 . If poor connections are found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 27 .
- Check for poor connections at trunk ajar switch assembly harness connector. If poor connections are not found, go to step 24 . If poor connections are found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 27 .
- Check for poor connections at BCM harness connector. If poor connections are not found, go to step 25 . If poor connections are found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 27 .
- Check for poor connections at Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) harness connector. If poor connections are not found, go to step 26 . If poor connections are found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 27 .
- Replace door lock cylinder. See DOOR LOCK CYLINDER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to step 27 .
- Replace trunk ajar switch. After repair, go to step 27 .
- Replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to step 27 .
- Replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to next step.
- Operate system to verify repair. If system does not operate properly, go to step 2 . If system operates properly, system is okay.
NOTE:
Door lock cylinder harness connector C1 is a Black 4-pin connector and may also be referred to as door ajar switch connector.

Trunk ajar switch assembly harness connector may also be referred to as rear compartment lid ajar switch harness connector.
NOTE:
Black wire from trunk ajar switch assembly harness connector changes to Orange/Black wire at splice S420. Splice S420 is located in right side of trunk, about 9" (229 mm) from right side breakout.
