Test K: Cruise Indicator Inoperative

  1. If cruise control system diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If cruise control system diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform cruise control diagnostic system check. See CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Operate vehicle using cruise control. If cruise control operates correctly, go to next step. If cruise control does not operate correctly, diagnose cruise control problem. See appropriate CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEMS article.
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. See Figure . Using scan tool, command CRUISE indicator on and off. If CRUISE indicator does not respond correctly, go to next step. If CRUISE indicator does not respond correctly, diagnose powertrain control module problem. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
  4. Replace instrument panel cluster. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to  2 .
