Test G: Charge Indicator Always On
- Ensure battery is in good working condition. After ensuring battery is okay, go to next step.
- Observe charge indicator. Start engine. If charge indicator remains illuminated for 5 seconds after displays test, go to next step. If charge indicator does not remain illuminated for 5 seconds after displays test, go to DIAGNOSING INTERMITTENTS .
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. See Figure . Using scan tool, observe BATTERY VOLTAGE parameter in IPC data list. If scan tool displays 10-15 volts, go to next step. If scan tool does not display 10-15 volts, diagnose charging system problem. See appropriate GENERATORS & REGULATORS article in STARTING & CHARGING SYSTEMS.
- Replace Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to next step.
- Operate system to verify repair. If system does not operate properly, go to step 2 . If system operates properly, system is okay.
