Test E: Change Engine Oil Indicator Always On

  1. If Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) system diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If IPC system diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform IPC system diagnostic system check. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Start engine. If CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON illuminates, go to next step. If CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON does not illuminate, go to DIAGNOSING INTERMITTENTS  .
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. See Figure . Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, observe ENGINE OIL LIFE parameter in PCM ENGINE DATA 2 data list. If scan tool displays zero percent, go to next step. If scan tool does not display zero percent, go to step  5 .
  4. Reset engine oil life. See ENGINE OIL LIFE SYSTEM RESETTING  under PROGRAMMING. If CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON indicator does not turn off, go to next step. If CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON indicator turns off, go to step  6 .
  5. Replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to next step.
  6. Operate system to verify repair. If system does not operate properly, go to step  2 . If system operates properly, system is okay.
