Test D: Brake Warning Indicator Inoperative
- If brake system diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If brake system diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform brake system diagnostic system check. See BRAKE WARNING SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Observe BRAKE indicator. Turn ignition switch to OFF, then RUN position. If BRAKE indicator illuminates during displays test and then turns off, go to next step. If BRAKE indicator does not illuminate during displays test and then turn off, go to step 11 .
- Apply park brake. If BRAKE indicator illuminates, go to next step. If BRAKE indicator does not illuminate, go to step 5 .
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Release park brake. Disconnect brake fluid level switch 2-pin harness connector. Brake fluid level switch is located on right side of brake fluid reservoir. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between brake fluid level switch harness connector Black wire and Purple wire terminals. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If BRAKE indicator does not illuminate, go to step 7 . If BRAKE indicator illuminates, go to step 10 .
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect brake fluid level switch 2-pin harness connector. Brake fluid level switch is located on right side of brake fluid reservoir. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between ground and brake fluid level switch harness connector Purple wire terminal. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If BRAKE indicator does not illuminate, go to next step. If BRAKE indicator illuminates, go to step 9 .
- Test Purple wire between brake fluid level switch harness connector and Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) harness connector terminal B1 for an open or high resistance. See Figure . If open or high resistance is not found, go to step 12 . If open or high resistance is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 17 .
- Test Purple wire between brake fluid level switch harness connector and Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) harness connector terminal B1 for an open or high resistance. See Figure . If open or high resistance is not found, go to next step. If open or high resistance is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 17 .
- Test Black wire between brake fluid level switch harness connector and ground point G203 for an open or high resistance. Ground point G203 is located below instrument panel, to right of steering column. See GROUND DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS. If open or high resistance is not found, go to step 11 . If open or high resistance is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 17 .
- Check for poor case ground or poor connections at park brake switch harness connector. If no problem is found, go to step 13 . If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 17 .
- Check for poor connections at brake fluid level switch harness connector. If poor connections are not found, go to step 14 . If poor connections are found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 17 .
- Check for poor connections at IPC harness connector. If poor connections are not found, go to step 15 . If poor connections are found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 17 .
- Check for poor connections at Body Control Module (BCM) harness connectors. BCM is located behind left side of instrument panel, to left of steering column. See Figure . If poor connections are not found, go to step 16 . If poor connections are found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 17 .
- Replace park brake switch. After repair, go to step 17 .
- Replace brake fluid level switch. After repair, go to step 17 .
- Replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to step 17 .
- Replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to next step.
- Operate system to verify repair. If system does not operate properly, go to step 2 . If system operates properly, system is okay.
