Test C: Brake Warning Indicator Always On

  1. If brake system diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If brake system diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform brake system diagnostic system check. See BRAKE WARNING SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. See Figure . Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, observe PARK BRAKE SWITCH parameter in BCM data list. If scan tool does not display OFF, go to next step. If scan tool displays OFF, go to DIAGNOSING INTERMITTENTS  .
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect park brake switch 1-pin harness connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, observe PARK BRAKE SWITCH parameter in BCM data list. If scan tool does not display OFF, go to next step. If scan tool displays OFF, go to step  5
  4. Test Light Blue wire between park brake switch harness connector and Body Control Module (BCM) Purple harness connector C2 terminal A2 for short to ground. See Figure . BCM is located behind left side of instrument panel, to left of steering column. See Figure . If short to ground is not found, go to step  6 . If short to ground is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  9 .
  5. Check for poor connections at park brake switch harness connector. If poor connections are not found, go to step  7 . If poor connections are found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  9 .
  6. Check for poor connections at BCM harness connector. If poor connections are not found, go to step  8 . If poor connections are found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step . 9 .
  7. Replace park brake switch. After repair, go to step  9 .
  8. Replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to next step.
  9. Operate system to verify repair. If system does not operate properly, go to step  2 . If system operates properly, system is okay.
