Test B: Anti-Lock Brake System Indicator Inoperative

  1. If Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If ABS diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform ABS diagnostic system check. See ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Check Black wire between Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) harness connector terminals "C" and "D", and ground point G113 for short to voltage. See Figure . EBCM is located behind left side of instrument panel, to left of steering column. Ground point G113 is located in lower left front of engine, on transaxle stud, to left of starter. Ensure ground point G113 is clean and tighten. If problem is not found, go to next step. If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  9 .
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. See Figure . Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, observe ABS WARNING LIGHT parameter in ABS data list. If scan tool displays OFF, go to next step. If scan tool does not display OFF, go to step  5 .
  4. Observe ANTI-LOCK indicator. Turn ignition switch to OFF, then RUN position. If ANTI-LOCK indicator illuminates during displays test and then turns off, go to DIAGNOSING INTERMITTENTS  . If ANTI-LOCK indicator does not illuminate during displays test, go to step  6 .
  5. Check for poor connections at EBCM harness connector. If poor connections are not found, go to step  7 . If poor connections are found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  9 .
  6. Check for poor connections at Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) harness connector. If poor connections are not found, go to step  8 . If poor connections are found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  9 .
  7. Replace EBCM. See ELECTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to step  9 .
  8. Replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to next step.
  9. Operate system to verify repair. If system does not operate properly, go to step  2 . If system operates properly, system is okay.
