Test Ai: TRAC Off Indicator Inoperative

  1. If Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If ABS diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform ABS diagnostic system check. See ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. NOTE: Vehicle's Regular Production Option (RPO) codes are listed on service parts identification label located on inside of trunk lid. Vehicles equipped with Enhanced Traction System (ETS) use RPO code NW7. Vehicles equipped with Traction Control System (TCS) use RPO code NW9.
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. See Figure . Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, observe ETS WARNING LIGHT parameter in ETS data list (NW7) or TCS WARNING LIGHT parameter in TCS data list (NW9). If scan tool displays OFF, go to next step. If scan tool does not display OFF, go to step  10 .
  4. Observe TRAC OFF indicator. Turn ignition switch to OFF, then RUN position. If TRAC OFF indicator illuminates during displays test and then turns off, go to next step. If TRAC OFF indicator does not illuminate during displays test, go to step  11 .
  5. Using scan tool, observe TCS SWITCH parameter in BCM data list. Press TCS button. If scan tool display does not change state, go to next step. If scan tool display changes state, go to DIAGNOSING INTERMITTENTS  .
  6. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect TCS switch harness connector. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between TCS switch harness connector Black wire terminal and Brown/White wire terminal. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, observe TCS SWITCH parameter in BCM data list. If scan tool does not display ON, go to next step. If scan tool displays ON, go to  9 .
  7. Test Brown/White wire between TCS switch harness connector and Body Control Module (BCM) Black harness connector C3 terminal B6 for an open or high resistance. See Figure . BCM is located behind left side of instrument panel, to left of steering column. See Figure . If an open or high resistance is not found, go to next step. If open or high resistance is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  16 .
  8. Test Black wire between TCS switch harness connector and ground point G203 for an open or high resistance. Ground point G203 is located below instrument panel, to right of steering column. See GROUND DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS. If an open or high resistance is not found, go to next step. If an open or high resistance is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  16 .
  9. Check for poor connections at BCM harness connectors. If poor connections are not found, go to step  12 . If poor connections are found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  16 .
  10. Check for poor connections at TCS switch harness connector. If poor connections are not found, go to step  13 . If poor connections are found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  16 .
  11. Check for poor connections at Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) harness connector. EBCM is located behind left side of instrument panel, to left of steering column. If poor connections are not found, go to step  14 . If poor connections are found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  16 .
  12. Check for poor connections at Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) harness connector. If poor connections are not found, go to step  15 . If poor connections are found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  16 .
  13. Replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to step  16 .
  14. Replace TCS switch. After repair, go to step  16 .
  15. Replace EBCM. See ELECTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to step  16 .
  16. Replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to next step.
  17. Operate system to verify repair. If system does not operate properly, go to step  2 . If system operates properly, system is okay.
