Test Ah: TRAC Off Indicator Always On

  1. If Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If ABS diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform ABS diagnostic system check. See ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. NOTE: Vehicle's Regular Production Option (RPO) codes are listed on service parts identification label located on inside of trunk lid. Vehicles equipped with Enhanced Traction System (ETS) use RPO code NW7. Vehicles equipped with Traction Control System (TCS) use RPO code NW9.
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. See Figure . Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, observe ETS WARNING LIGHT parameter in ETS data list (NW7) or TCS WARNING LIGHT parameter in TCS data list (NW9). If scan tool displays OFF, go to next step. If scan tool does not display OFF, go to step  4 .
  4. Observe TRAC OFF indicator. Turn ignition switch to OFF, then RUN position. If TRAC OFF indicator illuminates during displays test and then turns off, go to DIAGNOSING INTERMITTENTS  . If TRAC OFF indicator does not illuminate during displays test, go to step  5 .
  5. Check for poor connections at Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) harness connector. EBCM is located behind left side of instrument panel, to left of steering column. If poor connections are not found, go to step  6 . If poor connections are found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  8 .
  6. Check for poor connections at Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) harness connector. If poor connections are not found, go to step  7 . If poor connections are found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  8 .
  7. Replace EBCM. See ELECTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to step  8 .
  8. Replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to next step.
  9. Operate system to verify repair. If system does not operate properly, go to step  2 . If system operates properly, system is okay.
