Test AF: Speedometer &/Or Odometer Inaccurate Or Inoperative

  1. If Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) system diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If IPC system diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform IPC system diagnostic system check. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. See Figure . Raise and support drive wheels. Turn ignition switch to START position. Place transmission in Drive. Using scan tool, observe VEHICLE SPEED parameter in PCM ENGINE DATA 1 data list. If scan tool display matches speedometer display, go to next step. If scan tool display does not match speedometer display, go to step  4 .
  3. If odometer does not operate properly, go to next step. If odometer operates properly, go to DIAGNOSING INTERMITTENTS  .
  4. Replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to next step.
  5. Operate system to verify repair. If system does not operate properly, go to step  2 . If system operates properly, system is okay.
