Lighting System Diagnostic System Check

NOTE: Use this check as the starting point for any lighting system complaint.
  1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. See Figure . Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, see TEST G: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT POWER UP in appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article.
  2. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Try to establish scan tool communication with Body Control Module (BCM). If communication with BCM is established, go to next step. If communication with BCM is not established, go to TEST F: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE in appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article.
  3. Select DISPLAY DTC function for BCM. Record all displayed DTCs and status of displayed DTCs. If any DTCs are displayed, go to next step. If no DTCs are displayed, attempt to diagnose system by symptom. See SYMPTOM INDEX  table under SYSTEM TESTS.
  4. If scan tool does not display any DTCs that begin with "U", go to next step. If scan tool displays any DTCs that begin with "U", go to TEST F: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE in appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article.
  5. If scan tool does not display DTC B1000, go to next step. If scan tool displays DTC B1000, perform appropriate test. See appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article.
  6. If scan tool displays DTCs C1294 or C1295, perform appropriate test. See appropriate ANTI-LOCK article in BRAKES. If DTCs C1294 or C1295 are not displayed, attempt to diagnose system by symptom. See SYMPTOM INDEX  table under SYSTEM TESTS.
