Removal (2000 Grand Prix, Lumina & Monte Carlo, & 2001 Lumina)

NOTE: ABS brake modulator may only be replaced as assembly.
  1. Remove fuel injector sight shield. If vehicle is ABS equipped, remove brake modulator. If vehicle is not ABS equipped go to step  2. Remove brake pressure modulator gear cover. Remove brake motor pack. Remove ABS brake modulator-to-master cylinder banjo bolts. Separate brake modulator from master cylinder. Remove transfer tubes and "O" rings from master cylinder or brake modulator. Remove banjo bolt "O" rings from master cylinder and brake modulator.
  2. Disconnect electrical connector from fluid level sensor. Disconnect brake pipes from master cylinder, and plug. Remove master cylinder, and drain.
  3. Raise and support vehicle. Disconnect 3-way catalytic converter pipe. Disconnect heated O2 sensor wiring harness connector and retainers. Support exhaust system, remove 3-way catalytic converter pipe, and discard gaskets. Remove heated O2 sensor using Oxygen Sensor Wrench (J 39194). Remove transaxle fluid filler tube bracket retainer, and position filler tube aside.
  4. Remove EGR heatshield. Remove left instrument panel insulator, and remove brake pedal push rod from brake pedal. Remove vacuum hose from brake booster.
  5. Attach Power Brake Booster Holder (J 22805-01) onto booster using master cylinder retaining nuts. See Figure. Tighten nuts to 20 ft. lbs. (27 N.m). Unlock booster from cowl. Unlock booster tab from cowl mounting flange using flat-bladed screwdriver, while turning booster counterclockwise with ratchet on holder. Remove booster.
