Test H: High Lock Effort

NOTE: When replacing ignition key, verify if vehicle is equipped with PASS-KEY II(R). If vehicle is equipped with PASS-KEY II(R), new ignition key will need to be programmed. See appropriate ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS article.
  1. Verify ignition lock system has a high lock effort. If ignition lock system does not operate normally, go to next step. If ignition lock system operates normally, system is okay at this time.
  2. Check for a worn, damaged or incorrect key. If key is not worn, damaged or incorrect, go to next step. If key is worn, damaged or incorrect, go to step  6 .
  3. Check for a faulty lock cylinder. If ignition lock cylinder is not damaged, go to next step. If ignition lock cylinder is damaged, go to step  7 .
  4. Check lock module assembly for damage. If lock module is not damaged, go to next step. If lock module is damaged, go to  8 .
  5. Check ignition switch assembly for damage. If ignition switch assembly is not damaged, go to step  9 .
  6. Replace ignition key. After repair, go to step  10 .
  7. Replace lock cylinder. After repair, go to step  10 .
  8. Tighten lock module assembly. After repair, go to step  10 .
  9. Remove ignition switch. After repair, go to next step.
  10. Operate system to verify fault no longer exists. If fault still exists, go to step  2
