Test G: Key Cannot Be Removed In Off Lock Position

NOTE: When replacing ignition key, verify if vehicle is equipped with PASS-KEY II(R). If vehicle is equipped with PASS-KEY II(R), new ignition key will need to be programmed. See appropriate ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS article.
  1. Verify that key cannot be removed from ignition lock cylinder in OFF position. If lock system does not operate properly, go to next step. If lock system operates normally, system is okay at this time.
  2. Check for a worn, damaged or incorrect key. If key is not worn, damaged or incorrect, go to next step. If key is worn, damaged or incorrect, go to step  4 .
  3. Check for faulty lock cylinder or release button. If lock cylinder or release button is not damaged, go to step  2 . If lock cylinder or release button is damaged, go to step  5 .
  4. Replace ignition key. After repair, go to step  6 .
  5. Replace lock cylinder. After repair, go to next step.
  6. Operate system to verify fault no longer exists. If fault still exists, go to step  2
