Test F: Lock System Sticks In Start Position

NOTE: When replacing ignition key, verify if vehicle is equipped with PASS-KEY II(R). If vehicle is equipped with PASS-KEY II(R), new ignition key will need to be programmed. See appropriate ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS article.
  1. Verify ignition lock system sticks in START position. If ignition lock system does not operate normally, go to next step. If iIgnition lock system operates normally, system is okay at this time.
  2. Check lock module assembly for damage. If lock module assembly is not damaged, go to next step. If ignition switch is damaged, go to step  5 .
  3. Check lock cylinder for damage. If lock cylinder is not damaged, go to next step. If lock cylinder is damaged, go to step  6 .
  4. Check ignition switch for damage. If ignition switch is damaged, go to step  7 . If ignition switch is not damaged, go step  2 .
  5. Tighten lock module assembly mounting bolts. After repair, go to step  8 .
  6. Replace lock cylinder. After repair, go to step  8 .
  7. Replace ignition switch. After repair, go to next step.
  8. Operate system to verify fault no longer exists. If fault still exists, go to step  2 .
