Test E: Lock System Does Not Lock

NOTE: When replacing ignition key, verify if vehicle is equipped with PASS-KEY II(R). If vehicle is equipped with PASS-KEY II(R), new ignition key will need to be programmed. See appropriate ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS article.
  1. Verify steering wheel lock system does not lock. If steering wheel lock system does not operate normally, go to next step. If steering wheel lock system operates normally, system is okay at this time.
  2. Check ignition key for worn, damaged or incorrect key. If ignition key is not okay, go to next step. If ignition key is okay, go to step  6 .
  3. Check shift linkage for misadjustment. If shift linkage is adjusted correctly, go to next step. If shift linkage is not adjusted correctly, go to step  7 .
  4. Check ignition switch assembly for damage. If ignition switch assembly is not damaged, go to next step. If ignition switch assembly is damaged, go to step  8 .
  5. Check park lock for damage. If park lock is not damaged, go to step  2 . If park lock is damaged, go to step  9 .
  6. Replace lock cylinder. After repair, go to step  10 .
  7. Adjust shift linkage as necessary. After repair, go to step  10 .
  8. Replace ignition switch. After repair, go to step  10 .
  9. Replace park lock. After repair, go to next step.
  10. Operate system to verify fault no longer exists. If fault still exists, go to step  2 .
