Test D: Lock System Does Not Unlock

NOTE: When replacing ignition key, verify if vehicle is equipped with PASS-KEY II(R). If vehicle is equipped with PASS-KEY II(R), new ignition key will need to be programmed. See appropriate ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS article.
  1. Verify steering wheel lock system does not unlock. If steering wheel lock system does not operate normally, go to next step. If steering wheel lock system operates normally, system is okay at this time.
  2. Check ignition key for worn, damaged or incorrect key. If ignition key is not okay, go to next step. If ignition key is okay, go to step  6 .
  3. Check for faulty lock cylinder. If lock cylinder is not faulty, go to next step. If lock cylinder is faulty, go to step  7 .
  4. Inspect lock module assembly for damage or looseness. If lock module assembly is not damaged or loose, go to next step. If ignition switch assembly is damaged, go to step  8 .
  5. Check ignition switch assembly for damage. If ignition switch assembly is not damaged, go to step  2 . If ignition switch assembly is damaged, go to step  9 .
  6. Replace ignition key. Program key as necessary. See PROGRAMMING in appropriate ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS article. After repair, go to step  10 .
  7. Replace lock cylinder. After repair, go to step  10 .
  8. Tighten lock module assembly. After repair, go to step  10 .
  9. Replace ignition switch. After repair, go to next step.
  10. Operate system to verify fault no longer exists. If fault still exists, go to step  2 .
