Removal & Installation (Grand Prix)

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Using Door Trim Pad and Garnish Clip Remover (J-38778), remove push-in retainers from left instrument panel insulator. Remove courtesy light from insulator. Pull left instrument panel insulator forward from stud at accelerator pedal, and remove from instrument panel. See Fig 1 .
  2. Remove bolts/screws from bottom of steering column opening filler. Pull steering column opening filler rearward and upward to unsnap it from instrument panel. Disconnect low tire reset switch connector. See Fig 2 . Remove bolts/screws, and remove knee bolster bracket from instrument panel.
  3. Tilt steering column to lowest position. Grasping right edge of trim plate, work to left to release trim plate from retaining clips. See Fig 3 . Disconnect foglight switch harness connector. Remove instrument panel cluster trim plate. Unsnap driver information center from instrument panel.
  4. Remove rear storage compartment from front floor console. Remove front floor console trim plate. Remove shift control lever and indicator bezel. Remove rear bolts from front of floor console in rear storage compartment. Remove center bolts front floor console at transaxle shift lever mounting bracket. Remove front bolts from front floor console. See Fig 4 . Disconnect harness connectors. Pull front floor console rearward in order to release console from guide pins in instrument panel. Remove front floor console.
  5. Remove Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC) controller retaining bolts. Pull HVAC controller out from instrument panel far enough to access harness and vacuum connector(s). Disconnect harness and vacuum connector(s) as necessary. Remove HVAC controller. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten HVAC controller retaining bolts to 18 INCH lbs. (2 N.m).
