Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Disable the SIR system. Refer to DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM .
  3. Remove the windshield side upper garnish moldings.
  4. Remove the upper trim panel from the instrument panel (I/P). Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement .
  5. Remove the front floor console, if equipped. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement .
  6. Remove the left and the right I/P insulators. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement (RH)  and to Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement (LH) .
  7. Remove the steering column filler. Refer to Steering Column Opening Filler Replacement .
  8. Remove the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement .
  9. Remove the steering column. Refer to STEERING COLUMN REPLACEMENT in Steering Wheel and Column.
  10. Remove the bolts from the hood latch release handle. Remove the hood release cable from the hood release handle. Remove the hood release handle from the instrument panel.
  11. Remove the bolts from the data link connector, and move the DLC harness to one side.
  12. Using J 38778 (Door Trim Pad and Clip Remover), loosen the door opening carpet retainer clips. Remove the carpet retainer from the vehicle.
  13. Remove the accessory trim plate from the I/P. Refer to Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Replacement .
  14. Remove the cluster trim plate from the I/P. Refer to Instrument Cluster Trim Panel Replacement 
  15. Remove the inside air temperature sensor, if equipped. Refer to IN-VEHICLE AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR in HVAC System.
  16. Remove the headlamp switch. Refer to HEADLAMP SWITCH REPLACEMENT in Lighting Systems.
  17. Remove the I/P cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .
  18. Remove the radio.
  19. Remove the HVAC control assembly. Refer to A/C-HEATER CONTROL PANEL in HVAC Systems - Manual or to HEATER-A/C CONTROL UNIT in HVAC Systems - Automatic.
  20. Remove the I/P compartment. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement .
  21. Remove the bolts from the right end of the I/P.

  22. Remove the center and the lower bolts from the I/P.

  23. Remove the bolt from the left end of the I/P.

  24. Remove the bolts from the upper I/P.

  25. Reposition the wiring harness from the I/Passembly.
  26. Remove the I/P assembly from the vehicle.
