Installation Procedure

  1. Position the I/P assembly to the vehicle.
  2. Position the wiring harness to the I/P assembly.
    NOTE: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
  3. Install the bolts to the upper I/P trim pad. Tighten the bolts to 5 N.m (44 lb in).

  4. Install the bolts to the left end of the I/P trim pad. Tighten the bolts to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).

  5. Install the bolts to the center and to the lower I/P assembly. Tighten the bolts to 5 N.m (44 lb in).

  6. Install the bolts to the right end of the I/P assembly. Tighten the bolts to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).

  7. Align the fuse block to the cross vehicle beam and install the fuse block securing the locking tab.
  8. Connect the electrical connector to the I/P assembly compartment lamp.

  10. Install the compartment lamp into the I/P.
  11. Install the I/P compartment. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement .
  12. Install the HVAC control assembly. Refer to A/C-HEATER CONTROL PANEL in HVAC Systems - Manual or to HEATER-A/C CONTROL UNIT in HVAC Systems - Automatic.
  13. Install the radio.
  14. Install the I/P cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .
  15. Install the headlamp switch. Refer to HEADLAMP SWITCH REPLACEMENT in Lighting Systems.
  16. Install the inside air temperature sensor, if equipped. Refer to IN-VEHICLE AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR in HVAC Systems
  17. Install the I/P cluster trim plate. Refer to Instrument Cluster Trim Panel Replacement 
  18. Install the I/P accessory trim plate, if equipped. Refer to Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Replacement .
  19. Install the carpet retainers to the inside front door. Position the door carpet retainer clips to the carpet slots and push down to secure.
  20. Connect the data link connector (DLC) to the I/P and install the bolts. Tighten the screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).
  21. Install the hood release cable to the hood release handle. Install the hood release handle to the instrument panel. Install the bolts to the hood latch release handle. Tighten the bolts to 2 N.m (18 lb in).
  22. Install the steering column. Refer to STEERING COLUMN in Steering Wheel and Column.
  23. Install the knee bolster to the I/P. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement .
  24. Connect the electrical connector to the driver information center (DIC), if equipped.
  25. Install the steering column filler. Refer to Steering Column Opening Filler Replacement .
  26. Install the left and the right I/P insulators. Refer to Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement (RH)  and to Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement (LH) .
  27. Install the front floor console, if equipped. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement 
  28. Install the upper trim panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement .
  29. Position the garnish molding by the front pillar. Push on the molding to engage the 2 clips. Press the weatherstrip back onto the pinchweld flange.
  30. Enable the SIR system. Refer to DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM in Restraints.
  31. Connect the negative battery cable.
