Charging System Indicator

IPC illuminates charging system indicator when one of the following occurs:

• Powertrain Control Module (PCM) detects that generator output is less than 11 volts or more than 16 volts. IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM requesting illumination.
• Vehicle is shifted out of park with park brake engaged. Body Control Module (BCM) activates an audible warning.
• IPC determines that system voltage is less than 11 volts or more than 16 volts. IPC receives a class 2 message from BCM indicating system voltage.
• IPC performs displays test at start of each ignition cycle. Indicator illuminates for about 3 seconds.
• Ignition is on, with the engine off.
