Diagnostic Procedures
- Perform On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) system check. See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD) SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. After performing OBD system check, go to next step.
- If any other HO2S related DTCs (except P1133 or P1134) are set, diagnose affected DTCs. Start and warm engine to normal operating temperature. Operate engine at greater than 1200 RPM for 2 minutes. Using scan tool, observe HO2S voltage parameter. If scan tool indicates that HO2S voltage is varying out of 400-500 mV range, go to next step. If scan tool does not indicate that HO2S voltage is varying out of 400-500 mV range, go to step 44.
- Operate vehicle with FAIL RECORDS conditions. If scan tool indicates that this DTC failed this ignition, go to next step. If scan tool does not indicate that this DTC failed this ignition, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS .
- Visually inspect exhaust system for leaks near HO2S and for properly installed HO2S. Repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step 15. If no problems are found, go to next step.
- Disconnect HO2S 1 connector. Connect a jumper wire between HO2S 1 harness connector signal circuit and chassis ground. Using scan tool, read HO2S 1 voltage. If voltage reading is greater than 400 mV, go to next step. If voltage reading is not greater than 400 mV, go to step 10.
- Disconnect jumper wire. Using a DVOM, check voltage between ground and HO2S signal circuit on harness connector. If voltage reading is about 4.5 volts, go to next step. If voltage reading is not about 4.5 volts, go to step 8.
- Check voltage between ground and HO2S low circuit. If voltage reading is about 5 volts, go to step 11. If voltage reading is not about 5 volts, go to next step.
- Check low circuit for open or high resistance. Repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step 15. If circuit is okay, go to step 13.
- Check signal circuit for open or high resistance. Repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step 15. If circuit is okay, go to step 13.
- Check low circuit for short to ground. Repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step 15. If circuit is okay, go to step 14.
- Check for poor connections at HO2S. Repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step 13. If connections are okay, go to next step.
- Determine cause of sensor contamination before replacing sensor. Repair as necessary. After repairs, replace HO2S sensor. After replacing sensor, go to step 15.
- Check for poor connections at PCM. Repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step 15. If connections are okay, go to next step.
- Replace PCM. Program replacement PCM using required equipment. After replacing PCM, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Operate vehicle within conditions noted in FAILURE RECORDS data. Using scan tool, select SPECIFIC DTC INFO for this DTC. If scan tool indicates that this DTC FAILED THIS IGN, go to step 2. If scan tool does not indicate that this DTC FAILED THIS IGN, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, retrieve DTCs. If any DTCs are set, diagnose affected DTCs. If no DTCs are set, system is okay.
