Temperature Gauge Is Inoperative Or Inaccurate

  1. If instrument panel cluster diagnostic system check was performed, go to next step. If instrument panel cluster diagnostic system check was not performed, go to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Connect scan tool. Using scan tool, check for instrument panel cluster DTCs. If no DTCs exist, go to next step. If any DTCs exist, go to SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM  .
  3. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using scan tool, establish communication with instrument panel cluster. Select SPECIAL FUNCTIONS under main menu. Select OUTPUT CONTROL. Select TEMPERATURE GAUGE SWEEP TEST. Temperature gauge should perform a full sweep when commanded. If temperature gauge does not operate as specified, go to next step. If temperature gauge operates as specified, locate and repair problem in Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor system. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
  4. Replace instrument panel cluster. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Recheck system operation. Go to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
