Speedometer/Odometer Is Inoperative Or Inaccurate
- If instrument panel cluster diagnostic system check was performed, go to next step. If instrument panel cluster diagnostic system check was not performed, go to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Using scan tool, retrieve any stored instrument panel cluster related DTCs. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER DTC DEFINITIONS table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Service stored DTCs. After repair, check system for normal operation. If no DTCS exist, go to next step.
- If powertrain control module system check was performed, go to next step. If powertrain control module system check was not performed, go to appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
- Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using scan tool, Select speedometer gauge sweep test under output control menu. If speedometer does not perform full sweep, go to next step. If speedometer performs full sweep, go to step 6 .
- Replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After component replacement, go to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Ensure scan tool is still properly connected to DLC. Road test vehicle. Compare scan tool display with speedometer reading. If readings agree, go to next step. If readings do not agree, go to step 8 .
- Inspect speedometer and odometer. If problem is found with either component, go to next step. If speedometer are okay, go to step 10 .
- Ensure tire size is correct. Check Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) for correct application. Check for correct PCM calibration. If problem is found, go to next step. If no problem is found, go to appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
- Recalibrate PCM using correct vehicle information. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. After repair, go to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Road test vehicle and operate cruise control. If cruise control operates properly, go to appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If cruise control does not operate properly, go to DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK in appropriate CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEMS article.
