Low Engine Coolant Indicator Always On
NOTE:
Use Connector Test Adapter Kit (J 35616-A) whenever a diagnostic procedure requires inspection or probing a terminal. Use adapter in order to ensure that no damage to terminal may occur. This will also ensure that contact tension is sufficient.
NOTE:
To prevent any misdiagnosis, zero DVOM before taking any measurements.
- If instrument panel cluster diagnostic system check was performed, go to next step. If instrument panel cluster diagnostic system check was not performed, go to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Is the LOW COOLANT level okay? If yes, go to step 4 . If no, go to next step.
- Fill the coolant reservoir to proper level. Is the low coolant level indicator illuminated? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Connect scan tool. Perform a Coolant Gauge Sweep in Output Control. Does the low coolant level indicator toggle on and off? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 9 .
- Disconnect the low coolant level indicator module connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Is the LOW COOLANT indicator on? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 7 .
- Turn ignition off. Using a DVOM, test terminal "B" circuit 68 (YEL/BLK) for a short to ground. Does DVOM read infinity? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 8 .
- Replace the engine coolant level indicator module. After replacing module, go to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Repair short to ground in circuit 68 between the instrument cluster harness connector terminal B6 and engine coolant level indicator module terminal "B". Inspect the system. After repairs, go to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Replace instrument cluster. After replacing instrument panel cluster, go to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
