Parking Brake Shoes In Rotor Hub

  1. Raise and support vehicle. Mark relationship of wheels to wheel studs. Remove rear wheels. Remove caliper and mounting bracket as assembly, and wire aside. Remove rear disc rotor. Loosen adjusting nut on parking brake cable until lever is at rest position. Set Drum-To-Brake Shoe Clearance Gauge (J 21177-A) so it contacts inside diameter of disc rotor hub. Position gauge over shoes at widest point. Turn adjusting screw until shoe linings just contact gauge. See Figure.
  2. Install caliper mounting brackets and calipers. Install rear wheels. Tighten fasteners to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Apply parking brake several times and release. Check parking brake adjustment. Apply parking brake lever 4 clicks. Rear wheels should not able to be rotated, by hand, in forward direction and should drag or not move in reverse direction.
  3. If adjustment is necessary, release parking brake. While spinning rear wheels, tighten parking brake cable equalizer nut until either rear wheel begins to drag. Stop adjusting and back off equalizer nut one full revolution. Apply and release parking brake. Ensure rear wheels rotate freely. Lower vehicle.
