Low Coolant Indicator Is Inoperative Or Remains On At All Times
NOTE:
To prevent any misdiagnosis, zero DVOM before taking any measurements.
- If LOW COOLANT indicator illuminates when coolant level is okay, go to step 3 . If LOW COOLANT indicator does not illuminate when coolant level is okay, go to next step.
- If LOW COOLANT indicator does not illuminate when coolant level is low, go to step 8 . If LOW COOLANT indicator illuminates when coolant level is low, system is operating properly.
- Disconnect engine coolant level indicator module connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If LOW COOLANT indicator illuminates, go to step 5 . If LOW COOLANT indicator does not illuminate, go to next step.
- Replace engine coolant level indicator module. Recheck system operation.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect instrument cluster Gray 24-pin connector. Using DVOM, check resistance between instrument cluster harness connector terminal B6 (Yellow/Black wire) and ground. If resistance is 0-3 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not 0-3 ohms, go to step 7 .
- Repair short to ground in Yellow/Black wire between instrument cluster and engine coolant level indicator module. Recheck system operation.
- Replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Recheck system operation.
- Disconnect engine coolant level indicator module connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between engine coolant level indicator module harness connector terminal "B" (Yellow/Black wire) and ground. If LOW COOLANT indicator illuminates, go to next step. If LOW COOLANT indicator does not illuminate, go to step 11 .
- Ensure ignition switch is in RUN position. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between engine coolant level indicator module harness connector terminals "B" (Yellow/Black wire) and "C" (Black/White wire). If LOW COOLANT indicator illuminates, go to step 4 . If LOW COOLANT indicator does not illuminate, go to next step.
- Repair poor connection, open or short to voltage in Black/White wire between engine coolant level indicator module, underhood accessory wiring junction block and ground. Recheck system operation.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Leave jumper wire connected as specified in step 8) . Disconnect instrument cluster Gray 24-pin connector. Using DVOM, check resistance between instrument cluster harness connector terminal B6 (Yellow/Black wire) and ground. If resistance is 0-3 ohms, go to step 7 . If resistance is not 0-3 ohms, go to next step.
- Repair poor connection, open or short to voltage in Yellow/Black wire between instrument cluster and engine coolant level indicator module. Recheck system operation.
