Low Coolant Indicator Is Inoperative Or Remains On At All Times

NOTE: To prevent any misdiagnosis, zero DVOM before taking any measurements.
  1. If LOW COOLANT indicator illuminates when coolant level is okay, go to step  3 . If LOW COOLANT indicator does not illuminate when coolant level is okay, go to next step.
  2. If LOW COOLANT indicator does not illuminate when coolant level is low, go to step  8 . If LOW COOLANT indicator illuminates when coolant level is low, system is operating properly.
  3. Disconnect engine coolant level indicator module connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If LOW COOLANT indicator illuminates, go to step  5 . If LOW COOLANT indicator does not illuminate, go to next step.
  4. Replace engine coolant level indicator module. Recheck system operation.
  5. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect instrument cluster Gray 24-pin connector. Using DVOM, check resistance between instrument cluster harness connector terminal B6 (Yellow/Black wire) and ground. If resistance is 0-3 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not 0-3 ohms, go to step  7 .
  6. Repair short to ground in Yellow/Black wire between instrument cluster and engine coolant level indicator module. Recheck system operation.
  7. Replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Recheck system operation.
  8. Disconnect engine coolant level indicator module connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between engine coolant level indicator module harness connector terminal "B" (Yellow/Black wire) and ground. If LOW COOLANT indicator illuminates, go to next step. If LOW COOLANT indicator does not illuminate, go to step  11 .
  9. Ensure ignition switch is in RUN position. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between engine coolant level indicator module harness connector terminals "B" (Yellow/Black wire) and "C" (Black/White wire). If LOW COOLANT indicator illuminates, go to step  4 . If LOW COOLANT indicator does not illuminate, go to next step.
  10. Repair poor connection, open or short to voltage in Black/White wire between engine coolant level indicator module, underhood accessory wiring junction block and ground. Recheck system operation.
  11. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Leave jumper wire connected as specified in step 8)  . Disconnect instrument cluster Gray 24-pin connector. Using DVOM, check resistance between instrument cluster harness connector terminal B6 (Yellow/Black wire) and ground. If resistance is 0-3 ohms, go to step  7 . If resistance is not 0-3 ohms, go to next step.
  12. Repair poor connection, open or short to voltage in Yellow/Black wire between instrument cluster and engine coolant level indicator module. Recheck system operation.
