Brake Warning Indicator Is Always On

  1. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) Natural 10-pin connector C3. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If BRAKE indicator illuminates, go to next step. If BRAKE indicator does not illuminate, locate and repair problem in BCM system. See appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article.
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect brake fluid level indicator switch. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If BRAKE indicator illuminates, go to step  4 . If BRAKE indicator does not illuminate, go to next step.
  3. Replace brake fluid level indicator switch. Recheck system operation.
  4. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect Electronic Brake Control Module/Electronic Brake Traction Control Module (EBCM/EBTCM) connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If BRAKE indicator illuminates, go to step  6 . If BRAKE indicator does not illuminate, go to next step.
  5. Replace EBCM/EBTCM. See appropriate ANTI-LOCK/TCS article in BRAKES. Recheck system operation.
  6. Check for short to ground in Purple wire between instrument cluster and brake fluid level indicator switch. Repair as necessary and recheck system operation. If circuit is okay, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Recheck system operation.
