Brake Warning Indicator Inoperative

  1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool. Disconnect EBCM/EBTCM connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using scan tool, command BRAKE indicator on. If BRAKE indicator does not illuminate, go to next step. If BRAKE indicator illuminates, locate and repair problem in Body Control Module (BCM) system. See appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article.
  2. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If BRAKE indicator illuminates, go to next step. If BRAKE indicator does not illuminate, go to step  4 .
  3. Replace EBCM/EBTCM. See appropriate ANTI-LOCK/TCS article in BRAKES.
  4. Check for short to voltage in Purple wire between instrument cluster and brake fluid level indicator switch. Repair as necessary and recheck system operation. If circuit is okay, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Recheck system operation.
