DTC B0600: Option Content Failure: Description

Instrument cluster calibrations are stored in Electronically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory (EEPROM). When vehicle is first turned on, instrument cluster performs internal tests on EEPROM to determine integrity of its non-volatile memory.

Information in the instrument cluster configuration stored in EEPROM includes model, point of sale, manufacturer, odometer mileage and fuel tank capacity. This configuration information determines how instrument cluster will utilize data from other vehicle systems.

DTC B0600 will set when instrument cluster is unsuccessful at 3 consecutive attempts at writing to its own non-volatile memory and detects an internal memory malfunction (write error) when ignition is first turned on. When DTC B0600 is set, SERVICE VEHICLE SOON indicator light will illuminate.

Under all fault conditions, a current DTC B0600 requires an ignition cycle to become a history code. If conditions for malfunction no longer exist, history DTC will clear after 100 consecutive ignition cycles. DTC B0600 will also clear when scan tool is used to clear codes.
