Engine Oil Pressure Sensor/Switch Inoperative

  1. Turn ignition on. Use Tech 1 IPC function and read DTCs. If Tech 1 displays oil pressure sensor circuit (DTC B0091), go to next step. If Tech 1 does not display oil pressure sensor circuit code, got to step 4).
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect oil pressure sensor/switch connector. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS  table. Connect jumper wire between harness connector terminal "A" (Tan wire) and ground. Turn ignition on. If LOW OIL PRESSURE indicator lights, check Black wire for an open circuit or high resistance. Also check in-line connector for good terminal contact. Check oil pressure sensor/switch connector for good terminal contact at terminals "A" and "B". If all circuits are okay, replace oil pressure sensor/switch.
  3. If LOW OIL PRESSURE indicator does not light, check Tan/Black wire for an open circuit or high resistance. Also check in-line connector for good contact at terminal E5. Also check instrument cluster connector C2 for good contact at terminal A2. See Figure. If all circuits are okay, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  4. Turn ignition off. Disconnect oil pressure sensor connector. Connect 2 Red leads from Gauge Tester (J-33431) to terminals "A" (Tan/Black wire) and "B" (Black wire). Turn ignition on. Using Tech 1 IPC data list select OIL PRESSURE. Set tester resistance dials to zero ohms (zero psi), then to open circuit.
  5. If Tech 1 displays less than 2 psi at zero ohms and 2-6 psi at open circuit, check oil pressure sensor/switch for good contact at terminals "A" and "B". If terminal contact is okay, replace oil pressure sensor/switch.
  6. If Tech 1 does not display less than 2 psi at zero ohms and 2-6 psi at open circuit, check Tan/Black wire for a short to ground, open circuit, or high resistance. Also check Black /White wire for an open circuit or high resistance. Check all connectors for good terminal contact. If all wiring and circuits are okay, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
