Caliper Parking Brake

  1. Depress service brake pedal 3 times with a force of about 175 lbs. (79 kg). Release service brake pedal. Apply and release parking brake 3 times. To fully apply parking brake may require up to 2 pedal strokes.
  2. To ensure parking brake pedal is fully released, turn ignition switch to ON position. If BRAKE indicator light on instrument panel is off, go to next step. If light is on, pull front parking brake cable downward. This should fully release pedal.
  3. Raise and support vehicle. Mark relationship of wheels to wheel studs. Remove both rear wheels. Use wheel lug nuts to secure rotor to hub and bearing assembly. Parking brake lever on each caliper should be against lever stop on caliper housing. If levers are not against stops, check for binding in rear cables and/or loosen cables at adjuster until levers are against stops.
  4. Tighten parking brake cable at adjuster until either lever has moved .02-.04" (0.5-1.0 mm) off stop. Operate parking brake several times to ensure adjustment is correct. Rear wheels should not rotate forward when parking brake is applied. Remove wheel lug nuts from rotor and hub and bearing assembly and install wheels. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  table. Lower vehicle.
