Fwd Axle Shafts: Removal

- Remove wheel cover or hub cap. Loosen axle shaft nut one turn. Raise and support vehicle. Remove brake hose retaining clip from strut. Remove brake caliper, and support aside. Remove caliper bracket and rotor.
- Remove axle shaft nut and washer. Use Front Hub Spindle Remover (J-28733-A ) to force axle away from hub. Turn screw on remover until axle splines are just loose. Remove hub and bearing assembly. Remove ABS sensor (if equipped).
- Place drain pan under transaxle. On 3T40 transaxle, use slide hammer and Axle Shaft Remover (J-33008 ) to remove right and left axle shafts from transaxle. See Figure . On 4T60-E transaxle, use slide hammer and Axle Shaft Remover (J-33008 ) to remove right axle shaft from transaxle. Using a screwdriver or pry bar, pry left axle shaft away from transaxle at groove on inner CV joint. Remove axle shaft through steering knuckle.
