Tachometer Does Not Operate Properly

Connect scan tool. Turn ignition on. Select IPC data menu. If ENGINE SPEED reading of scan tool is same as tachometer of IPC, see appropriate BASIC TESTING - 3.8L article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE section. If ENGINE SPEED of scan tool is not same as tachometer reading of IPC, replace IPC.
