Oil Pressure Gauge Test
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position with engine off. If oil pressure is inaccurate, go to step 5). If oil pressure is high, go to step 3). If oil pressure gauge shows low or no oil pressure, disconnect oil pressure sender/fuel pump switch connector.
- If oil pressure gauge now indicates high pressure, replace oil pressure sender/fuel pump switch. If oil pressure gauge does not indicate high pressure, check for short to ground in Tan wire between oil pressure switch and oil pressure gauge. If wire is okay, replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) R & I under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Disconnect oil pressure sender/fuel pump switch connector. Connect jumper wire between oil pressure sender/fuel pump switch connector "A" (Tan wire) and ground. Turn ignition switch to RUN position.
- If oil pressure gauge indicates low, replace oil pressure sender/fuel pump switch. If oil pressure gauge does not indicate low, check for open in Tan wire. If wire is okay, replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) R & I under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Disconnect oil pressure sender/fuel pump switch connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Clip one lead of Gauge Tester (J-33431) to Tan wire of oil pressure sender/fuel pump switch connector. Clip remaining lead to ground.
- Set resistance dials of tester first to one ohm, then set to 86 ohms. Gauge pointer should indicate zero psi, then 80 psi. If gauge responds as specified, replace oil pressure sender/fuel pump switch.
- If gauge does not respond as specified, check Tan wire and IPC connection for high resistance. If high resistance is present, repair as necessary . If wiring is okay, replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) R & I under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
