Coolant Temperature Gauge Test
- If coolant gauge is inaccurate, go to step 3). If coolant gauge always indicates COLD, go to step 5). If coolant gauge always indicates HOT, disconnect coolant temperature sender connector and turn ignition switch to RUN position. If coolant gauge reads COLD, replace coolant temperature sender.
- Check Dark Green/White wire for short to ground. If circuits are okay, replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) R & I under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Disconnect coolant temperature sender connector. Connect Tester (J-33431) between Dark Green/White wire of harness connector and ground. Adjust resistance dials of tester to specifications and check result. See COOLANT TEMPERATURE GAUGE RESISTANCE SPECIFICATIONS table.COOLANT TEMPERATURE GAUGE RESISTANCE SPECIFICATIONS
Application Gauge Indication Skylark 37 Ohms (1) Hot 1310 Ohms (1) Cold (1) Resistance setting on Tester (J-33431). - If gauge responds correctly, replace coolant temperature sender. If gauge does not respond as described, check Dark Green/White wire for open or high resistance. If circuit is okay, replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) R & I under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Disconnect coolant temperature sender. Ground Dark Green/White wire at coolant temperature sender connector. If coolant gauge reads HOT, replace coolant temperature sender.
- If coolant gauge does not read HOT, check Dark Green/White wire for open. If circuit is okay, replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) R & I under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
