Rocker Arms & Push Rods: Removal

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove serpentine belt. For left (front) valve cover removal, remove alternator bracket and spark plug wires. Disconnect torque strut (if equipped) at radiator support. Remove torque strut bracket bolts at manifolds.
  2. Remove engine lift bracket. For right (rear) valve cover removal, loosen power steering pump bolts, and move pump forward with hoses still attached. Remove power steering pump brackets.
  3. Remove spark plug wires and valve cover. Remove rocker arm pivot bolts. Remove rocker arms and components. See Figure. Mark rocker arm component locations for reassembly reference.
