Steering Knuckle: Removal
- Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheel. Install drive axle boot protectors. Disconnect stabilizer bar from control arm. See STABILIZER BAR & BUSHING ASSEMBLY in this article. Remove hub assembly. See REMOVAL under HUB ASSEMBLY & SEAL in this article.CAUTION: DO NOT overextend drive axle CV joints or internal parts may separate.
- Disconnect tie rod from steering knuckle. Separate ball joint from steering knuckle. See REMOVAL under LOWER BALL JOINT . On models equipped with anti-lock brake system, remove speed sensor mounting bracket.
- With a sharp tool scribe 3 reference marks on:
- Steering knuckle along lower outboard strut radius.
- Inboard side of strut along curve of knuckle.
- Strut lower mount clamp and steering knuckle.
Carefully match mark components during disassembly for camber alignment reference.
- Remove strut-to-steering knuckle retaining bolts. Remove steering knuckle. See Fig 1.
