Lower Ball Joint: Removal
- Raise front of vehicle and support with jack stands under frame rails, behind front wheels or under engine cradle. Allow suspension to hang freely. Remove front wheel. Place drive axle boot seal protector on outer joint.
- Remove cotter pin and nut from ball joint stud. Using Ball Joint Separator (J-36226 ), separate ball joint stud from steering knuckle.
- Drill out ball joint retaining rivets. Use care not to damage drive axle boots during rivet removal. Disconnect stabilizer bar from control arm. See REMOVAL under STABILIZER BAR & BUSHING ASSEMBLY in this article. Lower the control arm. Remove ball joint from control arm.
NOTE:
If insufficient clearance exists for ball joint removal, install Front Hub Spindle Remover (J-28733
). Tighten front hub spindle remover until clearance is obtained to remove ball joint.
