Hub Assembly & Seal: Removal

  1. Raise vehicle and remove wheels. Allow suspension to hang freely. Install drive axle shaft boot protectors.
  2. Remove hub nut and washer. See Figure. Remove disc brake caliper. DO NOT disconnect brake line. Support caliper to prevent brake hose damage.
  3. Scribe reference mark on hub and rotor for reassembly reference. Remove rotor. Using Front Hub Spindle Remover (J-28733 ), separate drive axle shaft from hub. Support drive axle aside.
  4. Mark hub assembly-to-steering knuckle location. Remove hub assembly retaining bolts. Remove hub assembly.
  5. Disconnect stabilizer bar from lower control arm. Separate lower ball joint. See REMOVAL under LOWER BALL JOINT in this article. Move drive axle from steering knuckle. Remove seal from steering knuckle.
NOTE: Factory seal is installed from engine side of steering knuckle on "C" and "H" bodies. Service seal is installed from wheel side of steering knuckle.
